Breastmilk is one of the great inventions of nature: It’s the perfect mixture of what newborns need, containing vitamins, enzymes, and antibodies among many other ingredients. It’s a combination that supports the children not only as babies but will increase their health in a long range, for instance by protecting them from obesity and diabetes later in their lives.
Other than that, breastfeeding also helps the mothers to stay healthy. Mothers who are breastfeeding will have a lower risk of getting breast and ovarian cancer and postpartum depression. Because breastmilk is so precious and nutritious some people call it: Liquid Gold.
Many mothers bond deeply with their children when breastfeeding.
But besides having it as a beautiful moment of love and intimacy, it can also become a tiresome journey. Difficulties can occur: Sore nipples, a poor latch or mastitis (the inflammation of the breast) are quite common phenomena. Mothers who experience troubles with breastfeeding, can have a hard time believing in themselves as good mothers - finding helpful information and letting go of expectations towards themselves in such a situation can be challenging.
Liquid Gold shows the different experiences mothers went through when breastfeeding their children. The mothers share not only the beauty and magic of it, but also the struggles they had to face.
